Q:
I've been looking for a reliable way to convert my cheap plastic pin backs (made with red Amazon/Chinese maker), to magnet backs. I've tried just the collets, but am unsure if they fail because they don't actually fit my cheap machine, or my magnet is too strong. Help! Will this hardware work with a magnet? (For necklaces) if not, do you have an option other than buying an entire new machine? I will upgrade, but am still learning. On a budget.

I doubt your buttons are failing because the magnets are too strong. The supplies you're using are probably just not really compatible with your machine. Unfortunately with the machines you get off Amazon, they can look really similar to each other but be manufactured by different companies and therefore have slightly different specs. I can't really say if these supplies will work for your specific usage. You're welcome to order samples to test it out.
